In a world of endless social networking sites, I am happy to be part of one that focuses specifically on the people, places and creative happenings in Brooklyn. I have many favorite haunts, but there are tons of fabulous restaurants, bars, theatres, parks, etc., that I look forward to getting recommendations from others and hearing what inspires them about this great borough. I also love film and learning where certain scenes have been shot in Brooklyn. For example, I loved checking out the church in Red Hook that Marlon Brando goes to in “On the Waterfront”, as well as Ferdinando’s (since 1904), the restaurant in the Columbia Street Waterfront District where Leonardo DiCaprio filmed a scene from “The Departed”.
I live in Carroll Gardens and am a social policy analyst by day. I hail from the Chicago area, spent half a decade in Washington, DC and have been a New Yorker for over 7 years now. I love to interview people and write feature stories. I edit the “In Brooklyn” Ezine, and have written about culture and creativity in NY and other cities on www.PrimeViste.com. Some of my favorite interviews were with the owners of
Brooklyn's Micro Museum,
Cornelia Street Cafe in the West Village, and
Montgomery boutique in Harlem.
So, I look forward to meeting other creative folks who live in, or just love, Brooklyn – and hearing what inspires them. Cheers! - Rebecca
